Curly? Straight? Blonde? Fine? Normal? Dry Scalp? No matter what type of hair you have, products made for your hair type make all the difference. Want salon-worthy hair from home? Want to know your stylist’s secret? It’s pretty simple: s/he knows the right products to use for your hair type.

There are a lot of hair products on the market. But, let’s start with the basics: shampoo and conditioner. Shampoo and conditioner lay the foundation for having a good hair day. But, there are so many types. How do you know what’s best for your hair?

There are six major types of shampoo and conditioner:

Volumizing
Strengthening
Curl Defining
Blonde or “Brightening”
Dandruff Fighting/Daily Gentle
Clarifying

Below, we discuss the benefits of each type of shampoo and conditioner and define which products are best for each hair type.

    Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner

    For Fine Hair Types

Do you have very fine hair? Do you feel like your hair lies flat, limp, and lifeless? There’s no need to tease your hair to bring life to it, so give your arms and your teasing comb a rest. Volumizing shampoo and conditioner can help bring life back to your hair, cleaning your hair and leaving it feeling bouncy and light. The key ingredients clean the hair without leaving residues behind to weigh the hair down. When you have fine hair, you want to avoid using products that might contribute to the thinning of your hair. Stay away from products with sulfates, which strip the hair of natural oils and slow or halt hair growth. Also stay away from parabens which do not promote a healthy scalp and destroy the hair’s keratin. The best volumizing shampoos contain proteins, biotin, and vitamin B5 to maintain moisture while not weighing hair down with unnecessary residues.

Volumizing conditioner leaves fine hair more manageable and less tangled. It’s a given that conditioners are made to leave behind some residue in your hair – it’s the nature of the product. However, our volumizing conditioner leaves “less product” in your hair to prevent limpness. It’s worse to not use conditioner at all when you have fine hair – you just need to learn to use the right type of conditioner for your hair type. Stay away from conditioners that are thick – opt for a lightweight formula.  Our volumizing shampoo and conditioner line contains:

    • Panthenol Pro Vitamin B5: Maintains moisture to keep your hair from drying out; reduces “fly-aways.”
    • Burdock Extract: Promotes hair growth while simultaneously cutting down on grease and oil buildup.
    • Ivy Extract: Cleanses and conditions to keep the scalp healthy.
    • Rice Protein: Volumizes and strengthens the hair fibers while making the hair soft and silky.
    • Olive Fruit Extract: Full of fatty acids and vitamins A and E, moisturizes hair and leaves hair with a healthy shine.
    • Sunflower Seed Oil: Conditions the hair shaft, smooths, and reduces breakage.
    • Kiwi Fruit Extract: Helps hair retain moisture and prevents dandruff.

    Strengthening Shampoo and Conditioner

For Normal Hair Types with Dryness and Damage

Do you have pretty normal hair but it could use some help? Does it tend to break easily? Seems wispy and lackluster? Try a strengthening shampoo and conditioner to strengthen the hair strands and incorporate moisture into your locks. Many shampoos and conditioners that you buy “off the shelves” at big box stores strip your hair of its natural oils. Stay away from products that have sulfates in them – they are notorious for causing scalp irritation. Look for products that contain keratin and extra proteins to improve your hair’s condition. Especially if you wash your hair daily. With our strengthening line, our shampoo and conditioner will cleanse, strengthen, and fortify with these key ingredients:

    • Silk Protein: Moisturizes hair, forming a protective barrier to moisturize each strand and strengthen and condition.
    • Chamomile Extract: Stimulates and nourishes hair follicles, promoting regrowth and strength. Smooths and calms the scalp.
    • Wheat Amino Acids: Conditions and repairs to add luster and shine.
    • Panthenol Pro Vitamin B5: Moisturizes and strengthens to make hair shinier and more pliable.
    • Guar Gum: Controls frizz by holding in moisture, conditioning the hair to leave it smooth and defined.
    • Lemon Balm Extract: Adds nutrients and conditions for a healthy scalp.
    • Vitamins E and C: Protects hair from stress and damage and prevents scalp dryness.

    Curl-Defining Shampoo and Conditioner

    For curly hair types

Ah, curly hair. Then envy of all straight-hair individuals! If you’re lucky enough to have natural curls, we’re willing to bet you’ve had your fair share of hair woes. Frizz and dryness are two of the biggest complaints of individuals with curly hair. When it comes to managing unruly curly hair, hydration is key. The first step to tackle the hydration quotient is to use a shampoo that is free from sulfates. Sulfates strip the hair of its natural oils, leading to frizziness and dryness.

Once you get the right shampoo, make sure you lock moisture in with a curl-defining conditioner. A good conditioner enriched with keratin is a key product for individuals with curly hair. Keratin strengthens the hair shaft and smooths the hair cuticle to reduce frizz and add shine. Our curl-defining shower set is sulfate and paraben-free and sodium chloride-free. Our key ingredients for manageability, defined curls, and moisture-locking are listed below:

    • Panthenol Pro Vitamin B5: Moisturizes while leaving hair pliable, shiny, and strong.
    • Marigold Extract: Moisturizes the scalp to keep it healthy and dandruff-free.
    • Cucumber Fruit Extract: Promotes hair growth and keeps the hair soft.
    • Witch Hazel Extract: Promotes a healthy scalp and reduces irritation.
    • Yarrow Extract: Tones and heals the scalp; promotes hair growth.
    • Chamomile Extract: Strengthens and nourishes the hair follicle for hair regrowth.
    • Aloe Leaf Juice: Filled with scalp-healthy vitamins and minerals; controls frizz.
    • Dog Rose Extract: A hydrating scalp protector full of antioxidants and vitamins.

Blonde or Brightening Shampoo and Conditioner

For Individuals with Blonde, Color-treated, and Gray Hair

If you have blonde, color-treated, or gray hair, you might have heard of “purple shampoos.” These are the same thing as brightening shampoos and they are products used to enhance your hair’s color. Brightening shampoos diminish brassy or yellow hair tones – which can especially occur when individuals with darker hair get blonde or lighter highlights.

Blonde or brightening shampoo and conditioner cancel out any brassy tones by using a hint of violet to counteract those colors. The key thing to know here is that you have to have light-colored hair for this type of shampoo and conditioner to work. If you are a brunette, this type of shampoo and conditioner won’t work for you. Unless, you have blonde or lighter-colored highlights! Then, a brightening shampoo and conditioner can keep those highlights bright and popping with color. Look for brightening shampoos and conditioners that have the following ingredients for the best “pop” to your color:

    • Paraben and Sulfate-free: To protect your hair’s natural oils.
    • Natural Proteins: To add body and gloss.
    • Olive Oil Extract: To moisturize and keep hair shiny.
    • Peptide Complex: To smooth the hair cuticle for sleek, frizz-free strands.
    • Keratin: To reduce frizz, moisturize, and increase sleekness.

Dandruff Fighting/Daily Gentle Shampoo and Conditioner

    For Dry, Flaky Hair Types

Shampoos that are gentle enough for daily washes and to protect the scalp from dandruff, itching, and irritation are known as dandruff fighting or gentle shampoos. If you are suffering from a dry scalp and dandruff, wash your hair with a dandruff shampoo first and leave the shampoo on your scalp for five minutes for deep penetration and treatment. Then rinse off, as normal. Our peppermint shampoo and conditioner are great for all hair types and work wonders with dandruff and dry scalp.

Dandruff affects about 50% of the population and can be caused by dry skin, a reaction to hair products, an oily scalp, or a yeast-like fungus. There are a number of different types of dandruff fighting shampoos and conditioners, and the ingredients will different slightly for each. The following ingredients are found in our peppermint line:

    • Peppermint Oil: Soothes dry scalp and promotes hair growth.
    • Wheat Amino Acids: Conditions and repairs, adding a healthy shine to the hair.
    • Tea Tree Oil: Unclogs hair follicles and nourishes the hair root to stimulate hair growth. Heals and soothes dry and itchy scalp.
    • Panthenol Pro Vitamin B5: Moisturizes the hair shaft while adding luster and shine.
    • Burdock Extract: Promotes hair growth and minimizes oil build-up.
    • Ivy Extract: Works in conjunction with Burdock to strengthen and condition, while promoting hair growth.

    Clarifying Shampoos

    For Every So Often Application

Coming soon to our line or products, clarifying shampoos can be used on a weekly or monthly basis to clean dulling buildup of residue from hair products. Even if you don’t use a lot of products on your hair, you’ll still experience buildup from grease and oils. Clarifying shampoos can be very drying, so make sure to use them only on occasion. This is not your daily shampoo for everyday life.

Not only can clarifying shampoos remove product buildup, they can also remove other impurities from your hair, like chlorine from swimming pools and mineral deposits from hard water. It’s good practice to use a clarifying shampoo before hair treatments as well. Key ingredients to look for in a quality clarifying shampoo are:

    • Acetic Acid: The main ingredient in vinegar, acetic acid cleans and removes residue buildup from chemicals and products.
    • Surfactants: Allows deep cleaning of the hair follicles to strip away dirt, oil, and chemical buildup.
    • Citric Acid: Removes buildup in your hair from styling products and harsh chemicals (like chlorine).

There are literally thousands of products to choose from when choosing a shampoo and conditioner. Knowing your hair type is half the battle. Buying a shampoo and conditioner for your needs is the other half.

We can’t stress enough the importance of buying hair products made for your hair type. And, paying attention to key ingredients that are proven time and again for their effectiveness.  Acknowledge ingredient lists, stay away from sulfates and parabens, and sit back and enjoy your healthy and nourished hair.
